Isaiah 40:28 - 31 (esv)

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

introduction

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us…Without doubt, the mightiest thought the mind can entertain is the thought of God, and the weightiest word in any language is its word for God.”  - A.W. Tozer in “The Knowledge of the Holy”

These words from Tozer summarize the significance of our understanding of God.  Who is He?  What is He like?  How does He interact with me?  How do I interact with Him?  The might and weight which Tozer references commonly causes one of two responses.  Some respond in a spirit of fear; the kind of fear which paralyzes us and makes us cowards before God.  This fear keeps us from what He desires of us – to know Him more.  Others respond in a spirit of laziness and indifference not wanting to do the hard work of study and       contemplation regarding what is the greatest of all our pursuits – the       knowledge of God.  They may think they know enough about God to get them by and they don’t need to go deeper.

The wise response is to humbly pursue a growing and deepening knowledge of God which forms and shapes our understanding of life and godliness.      Renewal 2015 is a unique opportunity for our Crossroads Church family to experience a fresh understanding of just how incredibly awesome God is!  It will include an intentional focus on exploring the attributes of God to further our knowledge of Him; that we might be overwhelmed by the very thought of Him.  I believe our hearts will be wonderfully refreshed as we pursue      knowledge of God together as a church family.

According to the Scriptures, a proper and increasing biblical knowledge of God is the powerful accelerant for spiritual maturity as a Christ follower.  Much like continuously adding gasoline to a fire will ensure it doesn’t burn out, it is important that we continuously seek knowledge and understanding of God so that we maintain a passion in serving Him.  Therefore, pursuing knowledge is not only for knowledge sake; to focus simply on knowledge builds a path to pride and arrogance.  Our pursuit of God must always be   engulfed in a humble spirit willing to act upon the knowledge gained.  Our desire is that it may spur us on to greater obedience and service to Him.

This booklet will serve as our guide in exploring the greatness of God.  Dig in!
